Precautionary Notes

The micro:bit was designed for use by school students but it does not mean that it is indestructible. As you can see, it is an exposed board to be used with care. Please take note of the precautionary and safety notes highlighted below:

  1. When not in use, please store the micro:bit in a anti-static bag.
  2. Before touching and handling the micro:bit, its a good habit for students to practice earthing themselves. Touching your arm chair’s metal part is good enough to discharge any static electricity that has build-up on your body that may destroy your micro:bit.
  3. Make a habit of holding and handling your micro:bit at the edges.
  4. Only use battery pack and USB cable provided to power your micro:bit. Do not use power banks or USB charging ports as these devices may damage your micro:bit. Also, a lot of cheap USB cables are “charge only” type and not “Data/Sync” cables that is required to transfer your code to the micro:bit.
  5. Do not place any metal objects across the components of the micro:bit circuit board as it can cause a short circuit destroying your device and burn the components.
  6. Do not submerge your micro:bit in water or hold it with wet hands.
  7. If using a battery pack, please do not pull the wires when removing it. Pinch the connector with your fingers and gently pull it off.
  8. Do not use rechargeable batteries as it has a lower voltage capacity.
  9. Your micro:bit was designed to power devices using the 3V pad at the edge connector but it is recommended that you don’t exceed up to 90 mA of current load. This means that if you require more than 90mA from the edge connector, (e.g. driving lots of LEDs or a small motor) these should have power supplied to them externally.
